Paul named Young Australian of the Year

Adelaide designer Paul Vasileff’s reputation as an industry trailblazer continues to grow, recently adding the title of Young Australian of the Year to his resume after being awarded Young South Australian in November 2016.

His internationally renowned couture label Paolo Sebastian has garnered significant attention in 2016 following the launch of his Autumn/Winter 2016 couture collection Gilded Wings in Paris last year and two sellout runway shows at the 2016 Adelaide Fashion Festival presented by Mercedes-Benz Adelaide which left Adelaide mesmerised by the elegance and detail of each gown..

Vasileff, 26, started sewing at just 11-years-old under the guidance of his grandmother. His appreciation for luxurious hand-made creations and meticulous detailing continues to grow and has helped his brand, Paolo Sebastian, to gain international attention. Gowns made at his Adelaide studio have been worn on the red carpet at the Oscars and Logies, seen in Vogue Australia and soon Vogue Bride.

Today Paolo Sebastian operates in Adelaide CBD with 15 staff and an ever-expanding global client base and thankfully for Adelaide, Paul is determined to create a local brand, and has no plans of relocating any time soon.

As Kontos explains, “Paul’s outstanding work is in demand worldwide and he is making great connections in Paris, the birthplace of haute couture. However, Paul is committed to building his business from his hometown of Adelaide, which is great news for the industry in terms of jobs and exposure.

“The Adelaide Fashion Festival presented by Mercedes-Benz Adelaide is proud to support Paul and the brand as it grows, and we can’t wait to see what he dreams up for next year’s festival.”

Adelaide Fashion Festival congratulates Paul on this fantastic accolade that recognizes his tireless work, creative vision and enduring belief that there’s no place like home.
